
At AB-midden, the well-being of employees is high on the agenda Marga Hendriksen, HR manager at AB-Midden, explains why they opted for Empower as a partner in supporting their colleagues:

An extensive wellness program
AB-midden already had an extensive welfare program before she started working with Empower went into the sea. Marga explains:
“We have a gym at work, where employees can exercise before, during and after working hours. In addition, we offer discounts on external gym subscriptions and have a bike lease plan. We also provide psychological support when needed, which is important considering our diverse workforce with many Polish and Romanian colleagues. There is fresh fruit everywhere in the office and employees can get fresh juices every Tuesday. We also organize joint activities, such as running the Elfstrandentochten.”
Connection is important
According to Marga, interconnection is the most important thing for employees:
“The staff meetings and being together are greatly appreciated. Yesterday we said goodbye to a colleague who retired and the whole building was full. Moments like that are so valuable.”
The role of managers
Managers play a crucial role in welfare policy:
“They are role models and keep an eye on how everyone is doing. It is important that they pick up signals when someone is not feeling well and start the conversation. We also train managers in this so that they know how to act.”
Well-being challenges
Nevertheless, Marga sees challenges:
“I am concerned about the increase in mental health problems among our employees. We are not healthcare professionals, so it is important that we learn how to recognize signals and when to use specialist care. Especially with our diverse population, where not everyone speaks Dutch or English, this is extra complex.”
Positive impact of Empower
Empower has already had a positive impact within AB-midden. Marga shares some experiences:
“A good example is a colleague who became more aware of her health and eating habits. By adjusting her diet and paying more attention to a healthy lifestyle, she now feels fitter and better about herself.
This not only has a positive impact on how she experiences her work, but also on her overall energy and well-being.” “Another colleague did horse coaching and thereby gained more insight into herself, what she now uses in her work.”
