How Norton Rose Fulbright and Empowr are working together for a resilient legal sector.

Empower & Norton Rose Fulbright: Building wellbeing in the legal sector together

We are extremely proud of our cooperation with Norton Rose Fulbright. This partnership has further fueled our passion for the legal sector and offers us the opportunity to see up close how important wellbeing is in a demanding work environment. Together, we have already taken great steps, and the promising connection between Empower and the legal world inspires us to dive even deeper into this sector.

To put this special process in the spotlight, we spoke with Marjolein van Leunen, Head of HR Benelux at Norton Rose Fulbright. She shares her insights about our collaboration and its impact on their employees.

Why did you choose Empower?

At Norton Rose Fulbright, care and inclusion are key. The legal sector can be demanding and stressful, and employee wellbeing is key to their success.

“At Norton Rose Fulbright, we're committed to a culture of care and inclusion. We understand that the legal sector can be demanding and stressful. That's why we believe it's essential to invest in the wellbeing of our people. We've partnered with Empowr, a mental health platform, that provides our employees with access to a variety of online and offline resources to support their mental and physical well-being.”

Through this collaboration, employees have access to a wide range of support, so that they are mentally and physically stronger at work.

Why do you proactively invest in the well-being of your employees?

A healthy and happy employee is not only more productive, but also feels better within the organization. Norton Rose Fulbright sees investing in mental and physical wellbeing as a strategic choice.

“We believe that supporting our people's mental and physical health is not only the right thing to do, but also an investment in their future. With Empowr, we help employees manage stress, prevent burnout and strengthen their resilience. This not only leads to better performance, but also to a work environment where everyone feels valued and respected.”

Creating a positive and supportive culture is an important pillar here.

What is going well?

Since the collaboration with Empowr started, Norton Rose Fulbright has noticed a high level of commitment to their employees. The platform offers them the flexibility to find support that meets their personal needs.

“We are very pleased with our cooperation with Empowr. Since the launch of the program last year, we have seen a high level of commitment and satisfaction among our employees, both in Legal and Business Support. They value the confidentiality, ease of use, and diversity of the platform. It gives them the flexibility to find support that suits their personal needs.”

These positive results underline the importance of an accessible and widely deployable welfare program.

What could be better?

Although the collaboration has already had many positive effects, Norton Rose Fulbright still sees opportunities to further improve the program. Together with Empowr, they are working on:

  1. Expansion of the offer, so that employees have even more choice.
  2. -> Increasing awareness and accessibility, so that everyone makes optimal use of the platform.
  3. -> Gather more feedback to better tailor the program to the needs of employees.
  4. -> Reducing stigmas and barriers around mental health so that it becomes a natural topic of conversation within the office.

“While we are proud of the progress, we know there is always room for improvement. Together with Empowr, we are working to expand the offerings, raise awareness and accessibility of the program, and gather more feedback to better tailor the program to the needs of our employees. In addition, we are committed to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.”

What is your advice for other law firms?

For other offices that want to improve employee wellbeing, Norton Rose Fulbright has valuable insights.

“We are happy to share our insights with other offices that want to support their employees in terms of well-being.

Our advice: Be proactive: don't wait for problems to occur, but offer early support.

  • Don't think in terms of one-size-fits-all: give employees freedom of choice in how they support their well-being.
  • Culture is crucial: create a work environment where people feel safe to seek help.
  • Call in experts: work with parties such as Empowr, who have the expertise to set up an effective program.”

At Norton Rose Fulbright, they believe in a future where wellbeing and work go hand in hand. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this and hope that our partnership will inspire other firms to build a healthier, stronger legal sector with us. Together, we make a difference.
